The price you are charged is set by your billing country, and we ask for it at the payment step. Everything else — the letters, the missions, the cards — is the same wherever your recruit lives.
If your child isn’t taken with it, we refund the first month
If your child isn't taken with it, ask for the first month back from your billing page and we refund it in full. The guarantee runs until they show they are in — a second letter printed, a sighting record filed, or something ordered from the Archive.
No trial to remember to cancel, and no free month with a card on file. One button on your billing page, one confirmation, and the money goes back to the card that paid it — or reply to any of our emails and a person reads it. The window also ends if you tell us not to wait — we offer that, because the welcome kit goes out the moment it closes and some families would rather have the parcel than the refund.
What a commission includes

6 catalogue cards, a service record printed in colour on card stock, and the mission stickers that go on it. It goes the moment your child shows they are in — for most families, inside the first fortnight — to the adult who handles the letters, to hand over however they like.
A letter a week
Written by us, from your recruit’s own officer, continuing their storyline. You print it at home on one sheet of A4.
Missions and enclosures
Service records to stick, sighting records to colour in, cipher sheets and field notes — whatever that week’s letter calls for.
2 catalogue cards a month
Real printed trading cards from the Society’s catalogue, posted by the Archive once a quarter. Postage included.
A clearance review every six months
The Society reads a Noticer’s service record and writes to them about it. It is the one letter that is about them rather than about the Mischief.
The awkward questions
- What actually arrives, and how?
- The letters arrive as PDFs in your own account, one a week. You print them, seal them and deliver them however suits your household — the letterbox, the doormat, in with the ordinary post. We never send a letter to a child: every one comes to you.
- When do the cards come?
- Once a quarter, counted from the day you subscribed, unless you order them sooner. The Archive posts in monthly runs, and each recruit rides one run a quarter with the postage included. A run closes on the 15th; anything ordered after that travels on the next one. We do not promise a delivery date — the cards are printed in batches and posted from Auckland when the batch is ready. Outside New Zealand, allow seven to fourteen days from the day the run closes for an envelope to arrive; the welcome kit takes the same.
- Can we choose which cards?
- No — and that is part of the experience. The Archive decides what goes in an envelope, the same way it decides what to file — starting with your recruit’s own returned artwork once that has been accepted. Duplicates are deliberate: a sighting only helps if more than one Noticer can recognise it, and a spare is the best thing a child can take to school.
- Can I buy more cards?
- Any time, at the per-card price shown with the monthly price, with no postage as long as you are still subscribed — they travel in whichever envelope goes next. If you would rather not wait for your recruit’s quarter, you can pay the postage and send a parcel on the next monthly run instead.
- Can we stop?
- It is monthly, so stopping is stopping. Anything already posted is yours to keep — the Society does not recall its correspondence.
